The Black Diamonds' humble beginning was in Perry, Ohio, as a duo, in the barn of guitarist Dylan Francis with the backbeat provided by drummer John Swatowski in 2002. The two honed their skills together until bassist Kevin Naughton joined them in 2003 and then vocalist Chad VanGils in 2004. Within a few months they began playing out and found an audience that spanned the age spectrum from young to old.  They have been spreading their blend of big blues-boogie, straight ahead rock in Cleveland area clubs ever since. The Black Diamonds completed their self titled debut album in the summer of 2006 with Bad Breaker Records and have a second album already in the works with the addition of  Bonham-esque drummer, Mike Vargas (also of Royal Suburban Sky).

If you listen closely you may hear the influence of their predecessors, such as Big Bill Broonzy, The Replacements, R.L. Burnside, Led Zeppelin, Devo, Radiohead, Black Sabbath, The Clash and The Reverend Al Green to name a few. Their delivery of fresh, unadulterated, powerful roots rock has propelled the most jaded of rock and roll audiences into a frenzied state of rock and roll saluting euphoria. This band's appeal is to all who wish to see a passionate rock group that has yet to have their enthusiasm, beliefs and passion diluted by the trappings of the larger rock-n-roll industry. For this band, it’s all about the music.
